About Our National Leadership Sponsors

aramarklogoARAMARK became a City Year National Leadership Sponsor as part of the company's commitment to engage its workforce in meaningful volunteer service to enrich communities. The partnership leverages the shared dedication of ARAMARK and City Year to increase the positive role community centers play for children and their families, and will involve thousands of ARAMARK employees across the country in large-scale, high-impact service events.

The decision to partner with City Year is rooted in Care Force®, a division of City Year that engages corporate partners and their employees in high-impact community service events.  City Year will help create community service projects that leverage the unique planning, logistics, and facilities management of ARAMARK employees in order to deepen and expand the impact of community centers. The partnership with City Year and its investment in service to the community is at the heart of ARAMARK’s values of providing quality service to clients, customers and communities.

BOAstacked100Bank of America is a National Leadership Sponsor and National Lead Partner for the Young Heroes program, helping middle-school students nationwide understand the social issues facing their community and how they can be part of the solution.

Over the past 19 years, Bank of America and its legacy institutions have provided millions of dollars in grants and sponsorships to support City Year’s youth and the communities they serve.  In 1988, predecessor institution Bank of Boston became a founding sponsor of City Year, Inc. and was the first company in the nation to sponsor a City Year team.  Bank of America has endowed a Boston team with a $1 million investment to City Year Young Heroes program, and served as Presenting Sponsor of cyzygy ‘04, City Year’s annual convention and its 15th anniversary.  More recently, Bank of America played a pivotal role in the purchase and development of City Year’s new Headquarters for Idealism by supporting tax-exempt bond financing and bridge financing for the project.

Cisco100pixellogoCisco first partnered with City Year in 1993 when it became a founding sponsor of City Year San Jose/Silicon Valley.  As a National Leadership Sponsor, Cisco has been instrumental in the launch of many City Year locations: as a founding sponsor of City Year Seattle/King County and Washington, DC and by helping found City Year New York after 9/11 and City Year Louisiana in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.  Cisco has also generously donated essential equipment over the years to build computer networks across the country, including at City Year Louisiana and Headquarters, helping City Year better equip its sites and mobilize its corps members and supporters.

In 2007, at the culmination of nearly 15 years of working together, Cisco renewed its commitment as National Leadership Sponsor to support the development of the first standardized City Year service model for school-based service and after-school programs, “Whole School, Whole Child.”  The Whole School, Whole Child initiative supports student success, contributes to a more positive school climate and engages parents and community members.  Whole School, Whole Child is just one example of Cisco and City Year working together to prove what a leading technology company and dedicated social entrepreneurs can accomplish together.

comcast100Comcast’s initial involvement with City Year came in 2001 when The Comcast Foundation funded the City Year Detroit Leadership Development and Training program. Building on this successful collaboration, Comcast committed to become City Year’s National Leadership Development and Training partner in 2003.  Today, the Comcast partnership supports all of City Year’s leadership development programs and dedicates communication and broadcasting resources to raise awareness about City Year by reaching more young people across the country.

At all of City Year’s U.S. sites, The Comcast Foundation supports corps member leadership development and training programs, ensuring that incoming corps members receive the basic training and ongoing leadership development they need to help children across the country develop as successful, confident, caring, and active citizens.  Most recently, Comcast funded City Year’s Talent Development Program, to maximize the leadership development and training of the corps and staff across all departments and locations. In addition to sponsoring City Year teams in six key markets, Comcast is the presenting sponsor of City Year’s annual training academies for corps and staff. During City Year’s convention of idealism, which is also sponsored by Comcast, Comcast presents the Comcast Leadership Awards to City Year alumni who have continued their dedication to community service and led sustainable solutions for social change.

CSXlogoCity Year Boston’s 1994 Opening Day was CSX’s first introduction to City Year and provided the initial inspiration for what has become a long-term partnership.  Within weeks, CSX signed on as a team sponsor and now sponsors multiple teams of corps members, Camp City Year and service days across the nation.  In August 2003, CSX became a National Leadership Sponsor, creating a partnership that leverages City Year’s Care Force® service initiative to directly impact communities across the country by engaging CSX employees, customers and community members in transformative corporate service days.

Most recently, CSX donated Care Force® One, a tractor-trailer designed to transport City Year’s Care Force® staff and equipment to service events across the country.  This generous donation, and the continued partnership between City Year and CSX, demonstrates a shared commitment to service, the belief that we must be a positive influence on neighborhoods and communities, and the understanding that through teamwork, we can accomplish great things.

timberland100In 1989, City Year’s co-founders approached The Timberland Company and Jeffrey Swartz, now CEO, with a practical request.  They needed 50 pairs of boots for City Year corps members who were preparing to serve in the neighborhoods of Boston.   What began with that donation has since developed into a much deeper partnership: Timberland was the first company to become a National Leadership Sponsor; Swartz served as Chair of City Year’s National Board of Trustees from 1994 to 2002; and the company is now City Year’s Official Outfitter.

Every step City Year has taken has literally been in Timberland boots.  Timberland helped found City Year New York by sponsoring a team and several service initiatives there.  In addition, Timberland supports City Year Boston by endowing a team with a $1 million investment and engages Care Force®, a business division of City Year, to lead service days with Timberland employees.  In partnership with City Year, Timberland continues to redefine what a company and a nonprofit organization can do together.
