City Year was built on the belief that uniting, supporting and empowering teams of young people who are committed to solving some of our country’s most difficult challenges can change our world for the better. We believe that a national service experience can help to make our communities stronger through relationships, collaboration and elevating the power of groups of people working together for the common good. It is City Year’s vision to support our alums’ collective impact as a powerful force working to create change and build better structures within their families, workplaces and communities across the country.
We know the dynamic young adults who serve with us as City Year AmeriCorps members bring their unique talents along with several shared traits: empathy and curiosity, a desire to learn, collaboration and a commitment to making positive change. City Year is just one step—we hope a catalytic step—on their journey as transformational leaders and civically engaged citizens.
