After their year of service, City Year AmeriCorps members often enter the job market in various sectors. During their AmeriCorps Year, they are required to have a “Leadership After City Year” (LACY) plan detailing their post service year plan.
On Tuesday, November 7, we had the opportunity to attend our 18 Minute Networking event, in hopes of igniting some LACY plan ideas. The event, hosted in collaboration with the CYBR Associate Board, gave AmeriCorps Members a chance to talk to 40 professionals working in a variety of fields including, but not limited to youth development, social work, and healthcare. Each session featured a panel of two to five professionals. Our AmeriCorps member visited three different panels throughout the night based on their career interests.
The following businesses and organizations represented a few of our panelists:
- Mid-City Redevelopment Alliance
- Louisiana State University
- Capital Area Transit Systems
- Lamar Advertising Company
- Baton Rouge Youth Coalition
- Urban Congress
- Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center
The event helped get AmeriCorps members more connected to professionals in the Baton Rouge community and all had a great night of networking!
