On Thursday, families and friends all over America will gather together and join hands to give thanks for many people, experiences, and things both tangible and intangible. City Year Baton Rouge as an organization has so much to give thanks for as well, and this Thanksgiving we want to make a special effort to say thank you.
We are thankful for our beloved staff, who have dedicated their careers to children and come to work everyday to make a difference in the lives of students.
We are thankful for our partners in the schools we serve, as well as our partners in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, because they welcome City Year in these safe spaces in the spirit of collaboration and trust, to ensure every child has the support they need.
We are thankful for our sponsors and supporters around the country and Baton Rouge community, who ensure City Year has the resources we need to have impact through our service, and who enable us to move every student forward.
We are thankful for the national support of City Year, Inc and AmeriCorps, as well as the local support of Volunteer Louisiana, for providing a framework for state and national service that allow us to work toward our mission.
We are thankful for the 64 AmeriCorps members who dedicate long hours and incalculable energy to serve students in East Baton Rouge, forming bonds with students and providing excellent guidance and tutoring to make sure they reach their full potential.
And we are thankful to our students and their families, who give City Year the most important gift of all in the service we perform: trust. Thank you for giving us the privilege of being a part of your education, and for all of your hard work in reaching amazing new heights.
We hope that many of you, like the student from Claiborne Elementary who created the beautiful turkey in the picture above, are thankful for City Year Baton Rouge. If so, after the bustle of Black Friday and Shop Local Saturday and Cyber Monday settles down, please consider a Holiday or end of year gift to City Year Baton Rouge on #givingTuesday, or Tuesday, December 2nd. If there is one gift that will spread ripples for students and our country for years to come, it is the gift of education. Please visit bit.ly/1t8iyKk on this #givingTuesday, December 2nd to make a contribution.
City Year Baton Rouge wishes you a Happy Thanksgiving and a warm holiday season!
