By Oliver Pucker, AmeriCorps member serving with City Year New Orleans
Oliver Pucker is originally from Weston, Massachusetts and recently graduated from Brown University with a double major in history and economics. After serving his AmeriCorps year with City Year New Orleans he plans to return to Boston to work for Liberty Mutual on their corporate strategy team.
I was first introduced to City Year when I interned with the Summer Academy team after my freshman year at Brown. I met so many compassionate and motivated members of the City Year community, from rising senior AmeriCorps members to organizations leaders, that I decided to apply to serve after college.
I am looking forward to discovering a new city, meeting my pupils, and forming powerful new relationships. I am also extremely nervous about all of those things. However, I am excited to be pushing the limits of my comfort zone because my past experiences taught me that new opportunities are also a rewarding endeavor.
At Brown, I was part of a diverse campus community and developed a passion for intellectual debate. I hope that, this year,I will gain a practical understanding of how idealism can be transformed effectively into action. I hope to gain knowledge through practice with City Year.
I left for New Orleans on July 2, I am making pit stops in Washington, D.C. and Nashville before arriving on our nation's birthday, July 4th. Obviously, no pictures or stories to share just yet, but I look forward to starting my service year!
