When serving with City Year, 11 months can feel like a long time. Every day, City Year AmeriCorps members are focused on providing individual supports to students who may be behind their peers academically or at-risk of falling behind. Corps members provide one-on-one tutoring in math and English, lead after school programs and community-wide activities and mentor students who have poor attendance or disruptive behavior.

Needless to say, the work is hard.

Some days corps members feel on top of the world after seeing noticeable progress made with their students and other days they leave feeling that the work is nothing more than an uphill battle.

What makes it all worthwhile? Receiving a letter from your student that reminds you why you show up every day.
