Our AmeriCorps members on the MFS Investment Management team proudly serving with the McCormack Middle School are serious about literacy! This month they shared some of the ways the have been observing National Reading Month with their students.
The members of the team shared their favorite elementary-level book recommendations on their Instagram page:
They also asked their students what book recommendation they'd make to the world.
Felipe*, a 6th-grader (not pictured to protect student privacy) says, "I recommend the Amulet series by Kazu Kibushi because it's interesting and has very good pictures. It's very exciting."
Jordan*, a 9th-grader, say The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is "very relatable. Plus, when you finish it, you can watch the movie, and the movie's even better."
Jana*, a 7th-grader, recommends Dork Diaries #6 by Rachel Renee Russell "because it has drama and is interesting."
In addition, the team observed Women's History Month through literature by women of color:
and meditated on the words of some famous women authors and literacy activists.
