Why I Serve: I serve because I want every child that I meet to know that they are loved and are capable of being anyone that they chose to be.

Why I Serve: I serve because I believe in serving others. And I believe in the power of education. Everyone deserves a champion: someone who believes and him and will never give up on him. City Year provides thousands of champions each year for many more thousands of children.

Favorite PITW: PITW #101 The Ideal Service Metaphor is to Act like "Water."
Name: Sarah Caitlin Hathaway
Age: 23 (24 on Aug. 11th!)
Hometown: Asheville, NC
College: Elon University
Why I Serve: I serve because I know that a child's ethnicity, gender and environment have no correlation to that child's inherent ability to succeed. I also know, however, that opportunity determines the value of that inherent ability. I serve because Iknow that every child deserves to have those opportunities integral to realizing their full potential.
What are you most looking forward to in City Year? I am most looking forward to getting to serve at a new site in my home region! I served previously as a Corps Member in Milwaukee Wisconsin, where I worked with 9th graders. It's going to be an awesome learning experience serving in a very different city with the tiny humans, elementary schoolers!
Favorite PITW: PITW #160 - Seek to have a hard head and a soft heart. (These are characteristics I embrace on a daily basis!)
