Powerful Results

City Year kicked off its pilot program in Kansas City in July 2015 with 16 AmeriCorps Members serving in 2 schools. Since the successful pilot year, City Year Kansas City has now expanded to six partner schools with 58 AmeriCorps member serving of 3,300 students.

This year, City Year AmeriCorps members are working alongside talented teachers, administrators and other professionals to help improve student Attendance, Behavior and Course performance (the ABCs). Read more about why we focus on these areas here.

City Year is a data-driven organization, utilizing data to guide decisions, from which students receive one-on-one tutoring from AmeriCorps members to what content areas are focused on during intervention time with students. City Year staff and AmeriCorps members continually analyze data to best serve students and help them get back on track as quickly as possible. In addition, over the course of the year, City Year tracks school-wide and student-level impact in the ABCs and produces mid-year and end-of-year reports for our stakeholders.

2016-2017:

Improved Attendance

  • 44% of City Year students who started the year off-track in attendance (below 90% Average Daily Attendance) improved their attendance by the end of the year.
