Jonathon Glocknitzer is a 6th grade teacher at Alpha: Jose Hernandez in San Jose, CA, and a City Year Los Angeles alum. He served from 2012-2013 at Robert F. Kennedy Now Academy and again in 2013-2014 as a Team Leader at 109th Street Elementary. He obtained his Liberal Studies degree and California Teaching Credential from Dominican University of California. In his spare time, he completed two Rock n' Roll Half Marathons.

He is now training to run his first full-length marathon as part of the City Year Los Angeles Marathon Team.

My favorite place to run:

My current favorite place to run is along this trail that goes through the middle of San Jose and follows a little creek. It is nice because it is close to where I live and there is a lot of nature along the trail along with the bustle of the city.

The hardest thing about completing a marathon:

Making sure that I have enough time to prepare for the marathon. I am also pretty nervous because I have never done one before.

The thing that keeps me most motivated while running:

Knowing that no matter what I am accomplishing something, and that it’s all an internal push to always do best and try my hardest.

The thing that kept me most motivated while serving with City Year:

The students and my team. If they were strong enough to be there everyday and push through whatever struggles they were having, I knew I could do it too.

Best advice I received about training for the marathon:

To make sure I get in my miles and to have fun while finishing the race -- no matter what that takes.
