In our pilot year in Memphis (2016-2017), we deployed 16 highly-skilled AmeriCorps members to serve in two public schools. This year (2018-2019), we have 47 AmeriCorps members working across eight schools to impact the futures of hundreds of students.
When it comes to making an impact in the lives of the students and communities we serve, we wouldn’t be able to do it without the dedication and devotion of our AmeriCorps members.
Our City Year Memphis (CYM) AmeriCorps members – a diverse group of 17-25 year-olds – will serve the Memphis, TN community, working in eight traditional and charter public schools. Our AmeriCorps members have been training since mid-July 2018 and began serving in their schools on August 6, 2018.
Each City Year Memphis AmeriCorps members will serve at least 1,700 hours during his or her ‘City Year’ – from August 2018 to May 2019. Working in teams of up to 10, our AmeriCorps members serve as Student Success Coaches and implement City Year’s Whole School, Whole Child program every day, providing math and literacy tutoring, serving as mentors, and running after-school programs. This year, we will reach more than 3,500 students in Memphis to help them stay-in-school and on-track to graduate on time.
