City Year Milwaukee headed back to school at 11 Milwaukee Public Schools on September 1st! It was a great few days welcoming back scholars and we are excited for the year ahead. Below is a small glimpse of the highlights and joys our City Year Milwaukee AmeriCorps members experienced.

  • On the first day of school, South Division High School scholars were treated to juice, yogurt, and corn from a local vendor

  • Roosevelt Middle School of the Arts Principal, Mr. Keushum Willingham, joined the City Year team in power greeting the scholars

  • On the first day at Rufus King International Middle School, scholars were greeted by more than 50 fathers participating in the Million Father March.

  • Dr. George Washington Carver Academy of Mathematics and Science scholars were VERY excited to see a new City Year team and continued to shout "Hey City Year" to each new corps member.

  • On Wednesday, September 7, Hopkins Lloyd Community School reached 100% attendance.

  • Scholars at Rufus King International Middle School celebrated the joy of learning how to open their lockers and helping each other with the task.

  • Scholars at Alexander Mitchell Integrated Arts School joined in the power greeting and welcoming each morning by giving high fives and requesting music.

It certainly has been an exciting first week back and we cannot wait to share more stories as the year continues.
