City Year New Hampshire will soon graduate its 18th group of AmeriCorps members. While we say goodbye to this year’s corps, there is still time to apply to be part of next year’s group of amazing, inspired young idealists! June 1st is the final deadline to apply for City Year for the upcoming service year.
One of the most rewarding aspects of serving with City Year is the impact you have on the students you serve every day. Our AmeriCorps members serve as mentors to their students in the areas of English, math, attendance and behavior, as well as life in general. For the many young people who want to go into the field of education after their service with City Year, working with these students provides an irreplaceable stepping stone for their future careers. All AmeriCorps members also receive a Segal Education Award after completing their term of service. This $5,920 award can be put towards the cost of undergraduate or graduate studies, or to pay off existing student loans.
City Year New Hampshire in particular was named one of seven cities where you can make a difference to students. Our group of 70 AmeriCorps members serve in eight elementary schools all across Manchester, NH, and work tirelessly to serve students, families and communities in need. We are also striving to bring more people of color to Manchester in order to have our corps better reflect the diversity that we see in the students we serve.
