By Aaron Griffith, City Year AmeriCorps Member, Serving at McDonough Elementary School
As corps members, we work hard to include fun activities into our busy schedules, and that is exactly what McDonough School’s 15th Annual Fall Fun Fest provided. For fifteen years at McDonough, the fantastic PTA has put on this great carnival event for the students, family, and friends of the Mustang community. The affordable event allows families to come together and have fun without burning holes through their wallets.
The cafeteria and gym at McDonough was transformed into a warm and welcoming carnival. Favorite activities included the cakewalk, potato sack races, gathering ducks from a pond and throwing footballs through hoops. In the cafeteria, the community was able to enjoy pizza, juice, and cotton candy. At the end of the night, our principal handed out prizes through a raffle. A fun night was had by all!
Amongst all of this fun, the highlight of the event for me was to see all of the many people involved in putting on this event. Many amazing parents worked numerous hours to plan and implement the entire night. Members of the administration and staff were participated by selling tickets and involving themselves in fun with the students. Finally, it was so wonderful to have so many CYNH members from the FY15 corps, senior corps, and staff team coming together and providing hours of service on a Friday night to make better happen. The McDonough team is so grateful and can’t thank everyone enough!
