It was during his first campaign for Mayor that, at a meeting at Hillside Middle School, then-Alderman Gatsas saw what City Year could do for students in his city. He had a vision of City Year serving in all of Manchester’s elementary schools. Over the next three years he fueled that vision and made it possible for City Year to serve full-time in 6 of Manchester’s most challenging schools. It is due to the Mayor’s leadership and partnership that hundreds of AmeriCorps members have served Manchester and thousands of students have had a role model and mentor in their lives. Over time, he has served as a vocal champion and the biggest fan of our corps members, and their ability to truly change the lives of students in the Queen City. Mayor Gatsas and his wife Cassandra were our 2013 Lifetime of Service Award Winners.
Mayor Gatsas is a lifelong resident of Manchester, product of the Manchester public schools and a graduate of UNH.
