Happiest city on Earth

City Information

Orlando is famously home to Disney World, Universal Studios, and SeaWorld. With natural springs and hiking and biking trails, there are plenty of options for outdoor activities. Orlando has several professional sports teams such as the Orlando Magic and the Orlando City Soccer Club. The pedestrian Wall Street area is a popular area for Orlando’s large young professional population.

Housing

Average rental cost for a 1 bedroom is about $750 and about $940 for a 2 bedroom. Most AmeriCorps members live in Metrowest, Millenia, or the UCF areas and have roommates.

Transportation

Orlando is primarily a driving city. Having a personal car or carpooling with teammates is highly encouraged. There is a public bus system, but the bus lines are scarce, and the pickup times can be unreliable. AmeriCorps members receive a free LYNX ID, which is a reduced fare bus pass. If planning on utilizing the public bus system, plan for a longer commute.
