Every Student Can Succeed, and We All Have a Role to Play!
On October 22, 2014, City Year Orlando hosted its second annual friend-raiser breakfast, Idealists for Education! The event brought together more than 150 attendees: long-time supporters and champions, as well as new individuals eager to learn more about our impact and service in schools. It was a great opportunity for community leaders to network with City Year Orlando AmeriCorps members, and to learn about what it means to be an #idealist for education.
Highlights from the event include and address from Orange County School Board member, Nancy Robbinson and City Year Orlando Board Member with Wells Fargo, John Pisan. During the program, City Year Orlando AmeriCorps member and Team Leader, Jourdan Vann, shared his story of impact with student, Theveline Corriolant. During the program, Theveline shared, "For the first three months, I didn't want Mr. Jourdan’s help, but he continued to bother me. I remember one day he asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I told him that I want to be a pediatrician and I want to go to Harvard. We spent time looking up the requirements to get into Harvard and talked about what it would take to get there. I appreciated the time Mr. Jourdan spent listening to my goals and I realized he was there to help."
