The 2015 Women’s Leadership Luncheon hosted by City Year Philadelphia brought together 300 of Philadelphia's most accomplished women in business, law, and public service to explore important issues affecting female leaders in the workplace.
At the event, keynote speaker and #1 New York Times bestselling author, Jennifer Weiner interjected humor into the story of her career path, finding her literary voice and raising her two young girls in the city of Philadelphia. She also gave her advice to the young AmeriCorps members in the room, "If you hear that little voice speak up, you should probably listen to it."

“Seeing an author who you think so highly of speaking on behalf of an organization that you also love was incredible. It also reinforced for me the importance of getting the students we work with to understand the value of a great book. It's something I strive to do every day, much like Jennifer unknowingly did for me," said AmeriCorps member, Chelsea Brown

At the event, guests also got to hear firsthand accounts of what a year of City Year service looks like with an AmeriCorps member seated at every table. Corps members explained what it is like to be a tutor and mentor in high-need Philadelphia schools, including their daily challenges and successes.
The event was a resounding success and raised over $81,000 to help Philadelphia students realize their full potential. The funds raised will support the 8,000 local students that City Year Philadelphia tutors and mentors annually.
“City Year Philadelphia is proud to host an event bringing so many talented women together. We are also thrilled to welcome Jennifer Weiner whose books resonate with so many women in our community,” Karen Keating Mara, owner of Keating Mara & Associates LLC and co-chair of the Advisory Board of City Year Philadelphia.
