Since 1997, City Year AmeriCorps members have positively impacted greater Philadelphia’s schools. Over the past two decades, we’ve:

Deployed more than 3,000 corps members

Given more than 4.5 million hours of service

Engaged 60,000 volunteers

Generated more than $5,000,000 in education awards

Our hard work in Philadelphia has paid off. Our last full academic year resulted in the following:

Better School Enviroments

95% of teachers agree or strongly agree that City Year Philadelphia AmeriCorps members helped foster a positive learning environment.1

100% of principals agree or strongly agree that City Year Philadelphia AmeriCorps Members serve as positive role models.2

Higher Academic Acheivement

With City Year’s support, students who improved their attendance gained over 14,000 additional instructional hours.3

Two out of every three D or F students who received individualized English support from City Year Philadelphia moved to a C or better.4

After-School Enrichment

In the most recently completed school year, nearly 1,600 students benefited from before and after school programming with City Year Philadelphia.

100% of principals agree or strongly agree that City Year’s after-school program helped to strengthen students’ academic performance. 5
