City Year was invited to bring its signature energy to the Sacramento Region Community Foundation’s “Celebration of Generosity,” held Sept. 30. The event was a unique opportunity for donors, nonprofit partners and regional leaders to recognize the role of philanthropy in moving the Sacramento region forward.
As a founding school team sponsor, the Sacramento Region Community Foundation has been one of City Year Sacramento’s biggest donors to date. The event enabled AmeriCorps members to meet others in the community who have supported City Year, as well as educate those who had previously been unfamiliar with the organization. “The evening was a great way for us to share our energy and enthusiasm for the work we perform in schools,” said Michelle Silva, City Year Sacramento director of business development and marketing. “We thank the Sacramento Region Community Foundation for offering us a unique way to engage with the community.”
At the start of the Celebration of Generosity event, City Year Sacramento AmeriCorps members donned their red bomber jackets and welcomed attendees to the venue with enthusiastic cheers to get them pumped up for the evening. They also performed a special Power Greeting to welcome the Foundation’s CEO Linda Cutler and Board Chair Henry Wirz to the stage.
Power Greetings are tools used in schools to help get young students energized and ready for the school day. Uniformed City Year teams welcome students as they arrive on campus, performing positive cheers and chants that put smiles on the faces of many. The greetings are one of City Year’s many “Power Tools,” techniques for mobilization, communication, inspiration, reflection, critical thinking and team building.
