“Stronger Together” means just that. When organizations come together, their impact is far greater, and all are “stronger” than they would have been independently of one another. City Year Sacramento is excited that for the second year in a row we are stronger because of the support received from our community partner Golden 1 Credit Union.
As part of their “stronger together” approach, Golden 1 strives to become an integral partner in the communities they serve. For the last two years, they have generously invested more than $50,000 to support the service of City Year’s AmeriCorps members in Sacramento public schools.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support that we have received from Golden 1,” said Michelle Martucci, City Year Development Manager. “They are a leader in the Sacramento community, and with their help, we have been able to support more than 4,000 students in their academics.”
More specifically, Golden 1’s investment in programs that help students learn to read has allowed City Year AmeriCorps members to continue to support students in the area of English Language Arts (ELA).
Supporting students to develop proficiency in literacy/ELA is a focus area for Golden 1, and a central component of City Year’s approach to help students stay on track to graduate from high school college and career ready. In an effort to more fully serve students, City Year AmeriCorps members support teacher-directed literacy/ELA instruction during class time and provide targeted literacy/ELA support throughout the school day and after school for students identified as off-track to meet grade-level literacy benchmarks.
It is with the continued investment in service from organizations like Golden 1 that City Year AmeriCorps members can continue to serve Sacramento students throughout their academic careers, and ensure more high school graduates and successful adults across our community.
