Surrounded by beaches and redwood forests, outdoor adventures are endless. Some popular places include Santa Cruz mountains and beaches, Muir Woods, Big Sur, Pinnacles National Park, Yosemite, and Lake Tahoe. The Bay Area also has a major food scene, one of the largest ethnic populations in the country, and a rich history in social justice movements and historical influencers such as Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta.

Housing

Average rental cost is about $500-$600/month per person to share a room with another person. Typically, 4-5 AmeriCorps members live in a 2 bedroom. AmeriCorps members typically live in The Woods and The Carlyle Apartments.

Transportation

AmeriCorps members receive a free VTA bus pass for the year. This gives AmeriCorps members access to the buses and light rail for free, and the express bus at a discounted rate.  It is possible to rely on a bike as a main mode of transportation.  Driving a personal vehicle provides the most flexibility when it comes to travel and housing options.
