K&L Gates sponsored eight City Year sites – including Seattle – for yesterday’s Read Across America Day. We were thrilled to bring this partnership to Sanislo Elementary for an afternoon of literacy celebrations. With K&L Gates volunteers, City Year AmeriCorps members hosted a Dr. Seuss assembly followed by classroom story times with juice and cookies. Working with the school’s reading interventionist, K&L Gates also supplied new books for guided reading activities throughout the year.
Bringing the excitement of reading to life, volunteers met with students and teachers to talk about their favorite stories, and jumped into action to support the librarian with tagging and sorting books.
“We recognize that for law firms to ultimately be successful in growing and sustaining a more diverse workforce, we must provide critical resources and guidance to support students and schools in our urban centers,” said Jeffrey Berardi, Chief Marketing Officer, and Bryan Olson, Chief Human Resources Officer, for K&L Gates. “City Year is uniquely positioned to ensure that all students — many of whom have the potential to become America’s future lawyers — stay in school and on track. We are proud and excited to partner across numerous K&L Gates offices with City Year, an enormously well-respected nonprofit organization with a proven track record of demonstrating positive results in America’s schools.”
HUGE thanks to K&L Gates for your commitment to improving literacy in Seattle’s schools and your hands-on support on Read Across America Day!
