Nearly 1,200 volunteers joined City Year Washington, DC in service projects that transformed the environments in three District schools, created learning tools for students in schools City Year serves, collected supplies to be distributed to the homeless and created parachute bracelets to be sent to deployed military personnel.

Dr. King said, “Everybody can be great because anybody can serve.” City Year continues to set an example of service in our community, and we would like to thank the volunteers who joined us. We also want to thank the event’s Dream Sponsor, Pepco, and our special guests: U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and his family, District Mayor Vincent C. Gray, CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service Wendy Spencer, Councilmember Muriel Bowser and Councilmember David Catania.
