Today District of Columbia Public Schools announced that students demonstrated gains in math and reading during the 2013 - 2014 school year, based on results of the DC CAS annual standardized assessment. 51.1 percent of students are proficient in math and 47.7 students are proficient in reading.
Results for each school have not been released yet, though City Year is proud that five of the 13 schools we served last year have already been identified as having made significant gains.
- Stanton Elementary School and Kelly Miller Middle School have moved out of "Priority" status, meaning that they have shown significant growth over three consecutive years.
- Students at Cardozo Education Campus made growth in math and reading, with double-digit gains in reading.
- Ketcham Elementary School and Kimball Elementary School each made double-digit gains in math.
City Year is proud of the hard work and progress DCPS students displayed this year, and proud of our AmeriCorps members who worked alongside teachers, principals and administrators to help them realize their potential.
